You have been fortunate to have been posted to one of the most family orientated units in the Royal Air Force, the home of our beloved Hercules aircraft and the reason we are all here.
The HIVE Information Officer is here to help you settle into life at Lyneham. Please come along for a chat and a coffee at anytime. You can be assured of a very warm welcome!
Children
For the children, our nearest seaside resorts are Weston Super Mare, to the West and Bournemouth and Poole to the South. Closer to hand we have a plethora of manmade lakes at South Cerney which offer Jet Skiing, Water Skiing, sailing and swimming.
Clubs etc.
RAF Lyneham has a host of clubs, with something for everyone. It has an excellent physical education section with fitness suite, sauna and solarium. We also boast our own theatre, bowling alley and library
Village and Surrounding Area
Lyneham is situated in the heart of Wiltshire. It is central for everything especially for shopping! We are one hour west of London and half an hour east of Bristol, by car. To the north are Swindon and the Cotswolds. To the South are Salisbury, Stonehenge, the Lions of Longleat and the south coast.
We are surrounded by a wealth of historical sites, super places to visit, and excellent leisure facilities, including cinemas, theatres, swimming pools, bowling alleys, ice rink and numerous restaurants and takeaways.
Within the village, we have a well stocked supermarket, farm vegetables, computer shop, video hire, newsagent, florist, three churches, two public houses, hairdressers, barbers, a couple of garages, filling station, a caf� and several take-aways.
All are within walking distance of the quarters, which means that we are able to survive, when needs must, without having to leave the immediate area.
Local schools are of a high standard and details of these are under the title of Schools under the Lyneham Station Heading.
